Lake Lots, Palms and South Texas Heat
Zapata sits on the shore of Falcon International Reservoir, about 50 miles south of Laredo on U.S. Highway 83, and tree service here covers both town homes and lake lots. Zapata is the county seat but has no city government of its own. The 2020 census counted 5,383 people across about 7.6 square miles of land.
A town that moved uphill
The original Zapata now lies under Falcon Lake. The town was moved to higher ground in 1953, ahead of the completion of Falcon Dam, which was dedicated that October. That means most of today's Zapata was built after the early 1950s, and many of its oldest yard trees date from that move or later. Those trees are now large, and some carry the deadwood and weak forks that come with age.
Palms by the water
For palms on town lots and lake properties, regular trimming removes dead fronds, seed stalks and loose boots before they fall onto roofs, docks or cars. We leave the green fronds in place, because stripping a palm down to a narrow tuft weakens it and slows its growth.
After a storm blows in off the lake
Open water offers no shelter, and trees along the shoreline take wind straight on. After a storm, we clear trees off roofs and drives first, then deal with split and leaning trees, then the debris. If a tree is on a power line, keep clear and call the utility before anything else.
Extreme heat on record
Zapata's record high is 116 degrees, set on June 16, 1998, and the town holds the all-time U.S. record high for January: 98 degrees on January 5, 1997. Annual rainfall averages about 19.8 inches. Heat and drought stress show up as dead tops and dropped limbs, so deadwood removal is a big part of keeping trees safe here.
Lake lots and seasonal homes
Winter Texans, many with travel trailers, come to Zapata between November and April. Lots that sit empty in summer can grow over fast. We clear brush and volunteer trees from lots, campsites and access paths, and trim trees back from RV pads so slide-outs and awnings have room.
Call (956) 633-2503 or send photos with the form. If the property is a seasonal place, tell us when you will be there and we can plan around it.

Zapata Questions
Can you trim palms on a lake lot without damaging the dock?
Yes. We control where fronds and stalks fall, lowering them where needed, and clean up the dock and shoreline when we finish.
Do you clear seasonal lots while the owner is away?
We can, as long as we have clear directions on property lines, what to keep and access to the lot. Photos before and after are easy to send.
Who handles trees on lines along the highway?
Lines on the poles belong to the electric utility, and their crews handle clearance there. We work on trees on your property.
